This four-week online course is a flexible and productive way of developing the skills necessary for successful independent sector headship. It will help senior leaders in both independent and state schools decide whether independent sector headship is the right route for them, and support their applications and preparation if this is the case.

Facilitated by Andrew Hampton, a serving independent school head and past Chair of the Independent Schools Association, and Dr. Jill Berry, a former independent school head and past President of the Girls’ Schools Association, the course leads you through modules on Vision and Values, Schools as Businesses (including consideration of Marketing), Governance and Accountability, and Leading an Independent School through an Inspection.

Completion of the course requires a commitment of between three and four hours each week during four consecutive weeks. It will enhance your knowledge and understanding of leadership in this sector and build your skills and confidence.  The cost of the course is £350 (no VAT).

The course has received very positive feedback from new and aspirant heads working in a wide range of independent schools as well as senior leaders in the state sector interested in becoming an independent school head. Participants have included colleagues from preparatory schools with nurseries, all-through schools to 16 and 18, overseas schools, faith schools, non-ISC schools, co-ed and single sex schools and schools from all five Heads’ Associations within the Independent Schools Council.
